My work is more than just a profession. It’s a calling that fills my heart until it feels fit to burst. I am not just taking pictures, I am allowed to witness and preserve the beautiful, fleeting moments of connection that define a family’s love story. All based on trust.
And if I get a little of that love too, it’s priceless.
The Joy of Delivery Day
Last week, I had the pleasure of bringing a beautiful, hand-crafted album and a reveal box to a wonderful family I’d photographed.
Their session had been one of the most magical ones. The whole family had this beautiful loving vibe about them.
We didn’t just capture images – we created a memory of a day filled with pure, unscripted fun.
Anyway, as they opened their printed products, they were so happy with the result. They turned each page of the album, their fingers tracing the outlines of their smiling faces. They laughed, pointed out little details and the mom even had tears in her eyes again.
This is the moment I work for. The moment when photographs cease to be just pictures and become tangible memories to cherished feelings.
The Most Heartfelt Goodbye from a Child
After sharing in their happiness, it was time for me to leave. We said goodbye, and I felt that familiar sense of gratitude for being allowed into their world.
After some hugs and as I turned to walk towards the door, their little four-year-old daughter stood there, not smiling or waving. Instead, she was looking at me with the most earnest, sad expression on her small face.
And then, just before I stepped into the lift, she said, “I love you.”
In that moment, time seemed to stand still. My heart swelled; this pure, unfiltered declaration from a child’s heart. Wow!
The Real Meaning of My Work
I have been a family photographer for 13 years now, serving families here in Zurich and Switzerland now for seven years.
My job is not about the camera, the lighting, or even the perfect location. It’s about connection. It’s about the trust a family places in me to not just photograph them, but to see them.
During a photo experience with me, I’m not just a photographer.
I become a guest in a family’s life.
To the children, I am not a stranger with a camera. I am a friend who came to play. During the photo session, I get down on the ground, chase the kids through fields, and listen to their stories.
To the parents, I become an advisor, an organiser, a stylist.
So that little girl didn’t see the person who delivered a product. She saw a friend who had made her laugh and played silly games with her, and she was sad to see me go.
Her simple, profound statement was the most beautiful testament to the experience I create with families together.
It confirms that the fun, the ease, the trust and the genuine laughter we share during the whole process are what truly matters.
Working with me means letting me into your life for a few weeks, so that I can create that safe and trusted space for you and your family. This will allow a family’s true spirit to shine through, and lets us create images that are authentic and filled with emotion.
And if your child remembers those moments fondly, it’s an even better experience for you.
A Gift for a Lifetime
That little girl’s “I love you” is a treasure I will hold close forever. It is a powerful reminder that what I do has a meaning that extends far beyond the images themselves. It’s about creating an experience that feels like a wonderful day out, free of stress and full of joy. It’s about building a connection so real that a child feels safe.
And for me, the unexpected, unscripted declarations of love from a child? That is the most beautiful return I could ever ask for.
